Guest Guest
If you mean shots on goal by "cheap shots" then you are correct. If you mean cheap shots as in dirty play - you are mistaken. Only one incident that resulted in a Seton player getting tossed - but I felt that was a little over the top. It was a fifty/fifty ball that both players went hard after and there was a collision - but no injuries or cheap intent - just good hard soccer. There did appear to be some jawing going on (by both sides). SV was dominant and intent on erasing the memory of that awful loss earlier in the season. No police escort was required for the Seton team. SV playing very well right now. Expect that they will give Vestal a very good game. Should be top seed in Class B going into sectionals. Guest guest
Lot of talk on the field (and also by the large number of fans). SV was intent on avening their loss to lowly Seton earlier in the year. Seton got stomped (and yes it was a physical game). The Seton player who got tossed after the collision should not have been removed. Most people thought that. I think the refs tried it as an attempt to bring the game back under control (it didn't work). Why were there troopers at the field?

Guest guest
I agree. Great post. And Economou is one of the better goalies in the section, you cannot seriously deny that fact. But I do think that he will be an asset to a D3 team. His decision-making and technical skills are better than most goalies and allows him to make up for his smaller size. I think if he is 6'0" or larger he is surely a D1 prospect, but since he is not, he will not be looked at by a D1 program. And I prefer would him to Spadine or Wagstaff, even with the temper. But that is something he must work on, that much is glaringly obvious. But good technical goalie - I say 2nd in STAC. his decision making is horrible he has no idea when to come out or when to stay. has no sense of where the goal is and he just really sucks all together. he will not play for any decent d3 team

Guest Guest
Boys STAC Soccer Playoffs: #1 Vestal (Metro) @ #2 Sus. Valley (East) #2 EFA (West) @ #1 Johnson City/Maine-Endwell (Central) Johnson City plays Owego on Tuesday. If JC wins, they play EFA. If Owego wins, M-E and JC will have to play a division tie-breaker.
Guest Guest
Mike Econ is a good goalie in my book when he doesn't let up 40 yard rippers, and he makes saves without a stonewall defense in front of him. A 5'6" goalie would get torn apart without a defense. not 5'6" you coon, 5'8"

Guest Guest
You are confusing good HS athlete for a D1 keeper at the next and best level....nobody is saying the lad stinks. But if you think he is of that claiber, he is not. Size is good, but with that he needs to be much fitter (D1 Keepers are ridicously fit), quicker with feet and hands, with much better technique and clean up his handle on shots. At the HS level all are good not great....at the next level, potential may be there but a lot of hard work needs to be done and playing at a much higher level also is needed, getting used to seeing a faster game, with better play and quicker decisions. Not knocking just stating where he is at on the bigger canvas you talking about. From what i hear Wagstaff had a big knee injury this summer and only keeps getting better with time. I watched the kid play basketball and he certainly can move without question. I came in contact with his coach last month along with Wagstaff and they both said he is looking and talking to DI coaches. His coach told me he has been going to physical therapy 4 days a week while also staying in contact with coaches from Temple, Drexel, and Pitt. Wagstaff more then likely knows what a bigger canvas is like seeing as his coach says he loves competition, and admits he is too weak for DI level, while still working to achieve the goal. The final on this kid to settle it once and for all is that his coach told me he believes he's been through enough in his life like a rough divorce and moving back and forth to Owego and CV and the relationship he believes he doesn't have with his brothers that this kid will come through and gain the technical part of the game and advance to a high level of soccer. They have no business in the top 20 let alone #2. They are probably the 3rd best "A" team in the section behind JC and EFA.

He needs significant improverment in many facilities before this conversation is happening with D1 coaches....and no D1 school has interest in him through his HS play or coach....anybody that has been around soccer long enough knows this....he moves well but nowhere and I mean nowhere well enough to play D1 Keeper, seriously....go to a BU practice and learn what kind of physical condition, hand skills and foot skills a D1 Keeper needs....this young man is nowhere near this level....he has much upside but he is a long way from where he needs to be.....sorry to hear about his family struggles for certain.
