Reggie
In 2019, during the DA election, Mike Korchak called on Senator Fred Akshar to resign, after it was revealed Akshar had a relationship with the mother of a murder victim. Akshar was publicly supporting Korchak’s opponent, Paul Battisti. Korchak said Akshar’s actions were improper. And Korchak went a step further, and requested the Broome County Legislature intact legislation prohibiting such actions. "An officer shall not engage in social or romantic relationships with confidential informants or victims or witnesses involved in active cases." So why hasn’t Korchak called on Vestal Town Board member Jason Ellis to resign? Korchak has knowledge of Ellis, when he was a law enforcement officer, engaging in a romantic relationship with a victim in a rape case. A case Korchak personally prosecuted. In addition to Ellis’s election to the Vestal Town Board, today he was hired by the Town of Union as a part-time Court Bailiff. And Ellis is running the campaign for Kate Newcomb for Sheriff. Mr. Korchak? Your reasoning why these rules should apply to Mr. Akshar and not Mr. Ellis?
SU75
Wait wait wait. Aside from Korchak’s hypocrisy. You’re saying a woman was raped, then preyed upon by a police officer? It doesn’t get much lower than that.
Sooners
Why? Because Jason Ellis was a big supporter of Korchak’s campaign. Akshar wasn’t. Korchak is all about politics. He’s the worst kind of politician. Now this creep Ellis is getting another job in the courts, with access to more vulnerable crime victims? Despicable! Jill
Absolutely disgusting. Just like Korchak’s investigator Jeffrey Wagner.

If you don’t support him, he will come after you. Korchak is a disgrace.

I have no position on this story, I don't know the facts, but I'd like the OP to say more about the circumstances.

Broome Report
In response to the original post, Korchak and Ellis think it's a big secret. But more people found about it than they realize. What happened was, there was a big rape case in Broome County, with multiple victims. It was Korchak's case, and Jason Ellis was the lead Investigator, working at the DA's office. While working on the case, Ellis met one of the victims and began dating her. Steve Cornwell was the DA at the time, and found out, and fired Ellis from the office. Korchak made the decision to settle the case to avoid a trial, where Ellis's actions might be exposed. This resulted in the rapist getting a pretty light sentence. I believe he was facing life in prison, but instead he will be released from prison soon. This caused a major rift between Cornwell and Korchak, and their relationship was never the same. Many were outraged when hearing of the light sentence the rapist received, especially the police department who also worked on the case. This was all due to Ellis not being able to control himself. Back the Blue
Korchak is going to have to explain this when he runs again. The perp was facing a potential life sentence, but he gave a sweetheart plea to cover up for Ellis? And a dangerous rapist is going to get released soon before of it? All because Ellis preyed on a victim? This is one of the most disturbing things I’ve heard about Korchak, and I’ve heard A LOT of disturbing things.
