Obama Stimulus

And if this fails, get ready for yet another stimulus bill...

"We cannot afford to sit and twiddle our thumbs as our economy flounders," Obama said in front a large crowd in Nashville, Tennessee. "We can watch, we can hope, but if the Stimulus Bill that I now support in Congress fails to produce results on our nation, we must take action."

The President then revealed an "unexpected" stimulus plan that could cost upwards of 950 billion dollars. This bill aims extensively at curbing health care costs for people who make less than $45,000 a year and aims to help the unemployed pay their mortgage.

Within a matter of weeks this guy will make the cost of the entire Iraq war look like a K-Mart blue light special.

The housing market is looking pretty attractive if I had some extra money to invest as well. Prices are great right now and another bubble will form, probably not to the extent of the last one, but that's an investment I'm looking at. I agree as well with the stock market, the right industries could produce some very high returns.

Be careful with housing outside of the northeast. I belive the housing market still as room to decline in areas like Florida and California among others. Of course that is no secret. we have been pretty lucky that we havent been hit around here. But then again our home prices haven't been falsly inflated either.

Very true, like every investment, you have to see study the trends and threats to the investment. Exactly right, Binghamton wasn't a part of the housing bubble and we didn't really suffer when it burst. If I remember correctly, we were one of the few areas in which housing prices continued to increase despite what was happening throughout most of the rest of the country. Unfortunately, I think this area is too economically depressed to experience a major increase in housing prices, we just don't have demand for the jobs to bring people to this area and drive up the prices.

Real estate yes;but, as to Wallstreet; never give your money to anyone who you do not love. Never trust those rats up yonder. From womb to tomb they just want to seperate you from your money. Invest in yourself and contentment with what the Lord has given you. Whiskey and guns is where I'm investing right now.

Bush and Paulson didn't bail out Wall Street firms. They handed out blank checks and let the CEOs do basically whatever they wanted with them. 6 months down the road and we've yet to regain $1 billion from it. It was a terrible investment and quite honestly a terrible idea as a whole.

IP...Bank of America paid back a couple of million on 2/17/09. I am not sure of the exact amount. They want to get it paid back as quickly as possible because they said they no longer want government in their business.

The American people went ballistic when the big 3 FLEW in their corporate jets to DC. But it is ok for Obama and Biden to take seperate planes (which I know is protocol) to Denver just to sign a bill that could easily have been done in the oval office. Now it's on to Pheonix to make empty promises to the masses.

Were you aware that the Federal Government gave the Postmaster General a fat chunk of change this year, in the form of a raise? With all perks included, this guy is making over $855,000.00 per year. The USPS is bleeding red ink like water and they pull stunts like this. The rest of the postal service has to make cutbacks, such as layoffs and cut hours. But it's ok to be outraged at CEO wages and perks and then haul them all up on the hill and make fools out of them.

Wasteful government spending.. And that is exactly what this PORK PACKAGE is loaded with.

Exactly. Maybe he was just too lazy to read the bill first. It was only 8-9 inches thick. I guess it just wasn't that important. Or maybe he feels that if he doesn't actually see that all those who helped him get elected were getting huge payoffs in the bill (ACORN is just one example), then he doesn't have feel responsible or guilty. Or maybe I'm just crazy. Probably a lil of both.

Hehe....sure. How many days did President Bush have in office, presiding over handing off this mess?

The stimulus bills sucks, as do your very partisan comments.

 Sable, that's like saying that thorn in my foot hurts like hell, but someone told me a thorn in the foot is good, so I'll leave it there. You are making excuses to support the person YOU voted for by bringing up Bush. Bush is gone, but the socialism remains.

More confirmation of the Liberals' incompetence. Obama, Pelosi and Reid's "stimulus" is working well, but,,,,,,,, in the wrong direction. The DOW just reached a six year low today.

Come on Rocco. You've been silent on your liberal friends' endeavors. I'm interested in your defense of this idiotic incompetent social engineering entitlement legislation. Is this the "change" you wanted??

In all fairness to Rocco, I believe he's said a couple of times that he was against the stimulus bill.

Not on this thread. This is what is being hailed as Obama's landmark direction and change defining legislation. My question is, WHAT LIBERAL ON THIS SITE is proud of this stimulus legislation and the "change" that Obama, Pelosi and Reid have brought to this country.

Obama is nothing more than a smooth fast talking con man. He cast a spell on enough people to get elected. His lack of experience is starkly evident.

We're concentrating on Rocco. There are other registered users that should be called to account for their President's bailout. An occasional look at the bottom of the page has shown that Bee, Griffin, and even Uncle Geo have come and gone recently. I'm interested in their defense of this.

I think the lack of liberal response should be taken as an indication that they are embarrassed by the people and the "change" philosphy that they have been supporting. It is becoming apparent they they have made a huge mistake.

It would be interesting to see what their reaction is to the stimulus, but you can't make them account for Obama, Pelosi and Reid's plan.

Why not? These are the people they supported and the liberal agendas they promote.

Here's another little tidbit to expose the political fakery of the Dems. That economic stimulus signed by President Barack Obama yesterday will supposively spread billions of dollars across the country to spruce up aging roads and bridges. But there’s not a dime specifically dedicated to fixing leftover damage from Hurricane Katrina. And there’s no outrage about it. Democrats who routinely criticized President George W. Bush for not sending more money to the Gulf Coast appear to be giving Obama the benefit of the doubt in his first major spending initiative. Absolutely amazing. Wheres the outrage??????????

Bush at least won the Iraq war and risked his popularity on a policy he thought would be good for the country and our security.

Obama passed a stimulus bill that won’t stimulate the economy and was done for the good of the Democratic party.

I don't think Republicans know what the word "embarrassed" means.

For the life of me, I can't understand how ANY Republican can honestly say that the last 8 years have been the best this country has seen. Or, if not the best, then surely great. Let's see, the recession started two years, the country has been in debt for how many years?--I think about 1 or 2 years after the Clintons left office, we're fighting TWO wars (and really, one was all that was really needed), but why should I list ONLY the bad things that have happened in the last 8 years under Republicans. Something good must have happened when Bush II was in office--what were they?

And, don't get me started on how Republicans have all but bankrupt NYS. As a state employee, I'll forgo my raise when:

All the patronage jobs (1500-2000) are cut

All legislators take a 10% pay cut

all nys residents are furloughed like NYS employees--everyone should feel the pain.

SO, I guess with my rant--just what in hell have Republicans done that have been so great for this country and state? If anything, they need to be ashamed of how they pork barreled this country and state.

Bottom line is results.

If Obama can turn the economy around, he is a winner.

If he can not, he is toast.

How many people who voted for Obama, voted for him because of the economy and the fact their investments were tanking under Bush.

Alot of those people were those same Baby Boomers who will not tolerate seeing their investments take another hit. Since Obama has been in elected to office, the DOW is down 2000 more points.

Remember, it is the mushy middle that will decide the 2012 election. Not the Right or the Left. By then, the Right will be energized, the Left demoralized and the Middle ready for real change.

Oh and if we get hit by terrorists or the mid east goes up in flames, Obama is toast.

Are you that ignorant? Who told you the BLUE state of NY is republican controlled? You seriously think the republicans started the welfare programs that are killing us taxpayers? You've been lied to VERN!! This God forsaken state has been DEMOCRAT for as long as I've been alive!!

I would agree whole heartedly that how that was handled was atrocious. But I also will say that those investments in time will be repaid if for no other reason than to get out from under the thumb of the government. But be sure you will not see the stimulus money repaid except by our tax money for years to come.
