The Republicans controlled the NY State Senate from 1939 until 2008, with the exception of a brief period in 1965.

I don't think Republicans know what the word "embarrassed" means.

 

For the life of me, I can't understand how ANY Republican can honestly say that the last 8 years have been the best this country has seen. Or, if not the best, then surely great. Let's see, the recession started two years, the country has been in debt for how many years?--I think about 1 or 2 years after the Clintons left office, we're fighting TWO wars (and really, one was all that was really needed), but why should I list ONLY the bad things that have happened in the last 8 years under Republicans. Something good must have happened when Bush II was in office--what were they?

 

And, don't get me started on how Republicans have all but bankrupt NYS. As a state employee, I'll forgo my raise when:

 

All the patronage jobs (1500-2000) are cut

All legislators take a 10% pay cut

all nys residents are furloughed like NYS employees--everyone should feel the pain.

 

SO, I guess with my rant--just what in hell have Republicans done that have been so great for this country and state? If anything, they need to be ashamed of how they pork barreled this country and state.

This thread is not looking backward to define all the mistakes of the past, but looking forward with significant skepticism on the incredible travesty which the Liberals have created in this "Stimulus" bill. It is nothing more than social engineering, entitlement expansion and payback to all Liberal supporters including Reid'l railroad.

Here's another little tidbit to expose the political fakery of the Dems. That economic stimulus signed by President Barack Obama yesterday will supposively spread billions of dollars across the country to spruce up aging roads and bridges. But there’s not a dime specifically dedicated to fixing leftover damage from Hurricane Katrina. And there’s no outrage about it. Democrats who routinely criticized President George W. Bush for not sending more money to the Gulf Coast appear to be giving Obama the benefit of the doubt in his first major spending initiative. Absolutely amazing. Wheres the outrage??????????

At least it's an effort to try and fix the problem. But, since you know how to fix this mess, you tell us what should be done, and hold off on the rhetoric. I want an educated answer and not a sound bite from Rush.

 

And, the last time I looked, Katrina (a great embarrassment) happened on Bush's watch, and his FEMA. He had years to fix it, and didn't. So, with EVERY problem this country has, unfortunately, Katrina victims will have to take a number.

 

But, you're such a great patriot, you stood by and applauded every stupid thing Bush II did because he was a great white good old boy, and how you can sit there and deny that he all but destroyed the country defies logic. And, the best part--you're mad at Obama because he hasn't fixed this broke and broken country in 2 months. I'm disgusted at how Republicans refuse to except the blame for the disarray this country is in. In stead of blaming everyone but themselves, they need to look in the mirror and admit that they screwed up and we need to fix it. That would be the patriotic thing to do.

I'm still working my way through the 1000+ pages of legal jargon, it's taking me a while, I've been busy with other things unfortunately. But if you'd like you can expose specific pieces of the legislation and I will either gladly agree with you or I will tear you apart. I'm sure there are cases for both in the stimulus package, there are so many projects throughout the package that it's really hard to pinpoint anything specific.

Bruno and Silver were both elected to their respective offices in 1974. Since then, upstate NY has become a cesspool!! And it's because of LIBERAL/SOCIALIST POLICY!! That's why we have the highest tax burden in the US next to Hawaii!! Liberal/socialist "feel good" programs have destroyed our state and will continue to do so until we, somehow, can get rid of these bottom feeders!!

Well, at least someone has indicated that they might try to defend the "Porkulus" bill, in the future, when they've read all the details. Isn't it interesting that no Senator/Congressperson read the bill in entirety or understood all that it contained but voted for it anyway because their Messiah, Obama, told them to.

Now it's gone and the "lets give more rewards (entitlements) to the non-productive and encourage even more people to participate in the public dole.

 

 

This is just a start. There are an unlimited number of examples of the idiocy of this stimulus bill to address after you defend this issue.

I believe 100% in understanding how my tax money, plus the tax money of any children I may have someday and any children they may have possibly is going to be spent. To be fair to Obama however you have to remember he has teams of people to correlate and break down the data into easier chunks, also he has a legal background that I don't have, I have to stumble over some of the phrasing and dig a little to fully understand I only have a smattering of law and primarily have been more interested in other aspects of the law.

 

I like to read everything I sign, with the exception of EULA/TOS on Software I have bad habit of skimming that and I really should actually read it more intently, you'd be surprised what you agree to in those things.

Can't defend something if you don't understand it, also you can't attack it unless you understand it.

 

It isn't actually a cancellation, if you read the bill Section 2101 you'll find that the original wording of the document that would have allowed an increase of unlimited amount was changed in it's final form. The part of the PRWORA ( concerning TANF) you're referring to was a cap on the amount of money that the federal government would be able to dump into the emergency fund (Welfare). The increase in spending allowed to the Welfare program of each stateappears if you read the bill to be only allowed if the state sees an increase in it's case loads.

 

Basically what the bill is allowing is an increase in federal funds to the state welfare programs should that state experience a sharp increase in welfare cases. It's a stop gap measure aimed at helping states that get hit hard by job cuts.

 

It does not end the welfare reform act.
