thomas
After this brainstorm fizzled in the 1970s it's back. Supporters complain it takes too long to drive back and forth. 10 - 15 minutes. http://spectrumlocalnews.com/nys/binghamton/news/2017/10/25/bridge-from-endwell-to-vestal--petition-says-yes
Property & Casualty
it's my understanding that there always was the intention of a bridge connecting from Hooper Rd to Old Vestal Rd. IMHO the cost benefit analysis doesn't warrant the expense. Besides, the enviro crowd will object on the grounds of a disruption to the Carp population. The homeless dwelling on the riverbank will also be displaced. I'm sure that it would somehow be declared racist as well.
M_Sable
I akways thought that it was a good idea. It makes sense. Of course, NY State can't maintain what it has, so why build more?

rightorwrong
New York State is suffering from not being able to maintain its current infrastructure and this individual wants more bridges built? I can think of a hundred different ways to better spend our tax money. It certainly does not take that long to get to the Route 201 bridge or the Route 26 bridge. Two bridges that already link that area to Vestal. There was a study done on this proposed bridge even in the early part of the new century. The conclusion was that it was too expensive and after all it is Endwell not New York City. This is just another example of someone who is bored driving the distance to get to work and wants to get there maybe 5 minutes faster.
Sengui
Leftover rumors from the time claim that a better bridge location would be been Campville. This was so traffic from new housing in Western Broome and Eastern Tioga could get to Endicott, Vestal Center, and JC faster. Also to alleviate congestion at exits 67n-s, and the Oakdale Mall exit. It seems to make sense politically. More money, a growing Western Tioga population, more votes, and a new exit for the mall. Then again there are rumors, hind sight, very little fact, many conflations, opinion, and faded memories speaking from the past. The subject surfaces only once in a very great while at gatherings involving people from the Endwell area and Endicott areas. At great issue was access to NYS 17. Traffic from Endwell went through mall traffic or Endicott. In the day Endicott had IBM, EJ, two foundries, a large laundry, and many other businesses that plugged up traffic in the North Street and Main Street areas. Johnson City had the new mall, EJ facilities, many small businesses, and at the time, Wilson Hospital slowing things down on Main St and the Geo F Highway. It does make some sense for a bridge between JC and Endicott at that time.
BubbaGump
The mall is dead as well as Endicott and Endwell so what's a bridge going to do? You may as well build a yellow brick road!
Bingoloid
Mildly delusional.
