My, two cents on the first half of the ME-BHS game. I left!

BHS – Two or three linemen short of being a winning caliber AA team. I expect that if they were playing in Section 3 they would finish under .500. Terrible DB play, the first TD shouldn’t have even a completion. By the time that ball fell out of the clouds it was two on one. Interceptions are nice, but you have to make sure there isn’t a reception FIRST. A gift! Poor angles of pursuit on the pass rush. OK, he beats you the first time, #7 runs better than you expected. Think, get under control and adjust. Then, you’ve got to catch the ball guys.

ME - A shadow of last year’s team, but will walk through their S4 opponents. That could hurt them. More talented than BHS, but not by as much as the score suggests. ME played a solid first half, but the score reflects BHS’s poor play more than anything else. I think that #33 can be held down [60 yards +/-] by a determined defense with a better front line than BHS. That places the burden of defending their B title on #7. He’s a cool customer, has great field sense, runs well and throws that punt-like pass far and high, but still isn’t a very good passer. That could be a problem.

I'd say thats a very fair and well-thought out analysis. Something you don't see often on this site.

I would agree with much of that but to make things even more simple it comes down to ME has a legit QB and Bingo doesn't have one. The box scores reinforces this. Bingo was 1-13 passing with 3 INT's. You can't run a spread offense and not be able to throw and this doesn't include Bingo's fumbles. Bingo never gave themselves a chance.

I agree. It wasn't so much that ME was impressive, it was Bing that didn't make plays. They had Gallagher scrambling so many times in the backfield and couldn't catch him. If they had a QB that could pass, it would have been a very different game.

Doesnt the great football power of Endicott scout anymore? Took until the 2nd half to figure out Elmira's offense???? Wth. Excuses. You are 0-2.

Bottom line. Do a better prep job.

I am so confused with the the debate here.

ME>Binghamton

Elmira>Binghamton

Me>Elmira>UE>Vestal>Binghamton

End of discussion.

When it comes right down to it, who really cares.

It's absolutely idiotic and purely ego driven to scout jv opponents. Varsity is what matters and the jv staff is there to serve varsity.

Varsity matters...Size matters..jvs do not???... all debateable..where do the varsityplayers come from??.. do they grow on trees??. do they mostly come from a jv program???.. is it better for the players when they get to the varsity to have learned a thing or two about their craft from dedicated, committed hard working jv coaches, or would they be better off if their coaches took your attitude jvs are irrelevant...the football programs at me are the standard in this area..at this time...the kids are taught, coached and develop winning ways at the lower levels of competition at serve them very well at the highest levels...

It would be interesting if they did an investagation into the Maine Endwell football program for kids on performance enhancing drugs. ME is a very affluent community and it is easy now for students to get a hold of performance enhancing drugs. I could see having a team like they have had the last two years every once in a while and I understand the value of weight training. But it seems that what is taking place in ME needs to be looked at. I am not pointing this out because of the success of ME, but mostly because of the physical size of the kids. It is sad that drug testing does not take place at the high school level. I feel sorry for any young athlete who would put this in their body now and not understand the long term side effects. ME is a very good program, but the most annoying thing is the lack of humility. We all understand that you have a great program, but the way they carry themselves can turn your stomach.

People will be pissed that you are even saying that but it is the first thing I thought seeing the kids last year and the difference in size of those kids over a 2-3 year period. I watched all those kids grow up. Its not even bashing. It seems so obvious just looking at them and their physiques, in such stark contrast to kids in other programs. It is like observing Bonds or Sosa's transformation over what seemed like one offseason. I don't think they want to ask the tough questions but its got to be talked about. They all work out at the same joint, btw. Again, seems almost painfully obvious. And kids in other programs work out too and have for years. What's the difference?

What's the difference? Have you seen MEs weight room. State of the Art. Also a huge factor and probably the biggest reason for MEs growth is the influence of a physical trainer (don't want to mention his name) that has introduced radical techniques to the traditional 3 reps and ur done. Nothing suspicious going on at ME, just working harder and smarter. Btw, stop being so jealous.

Classic ME response. Hey you have a heck of a football team. No one disputes that. As far as your "radical techniques", that is a bit suspect. How come all of your kids on the team havent grown as much as some. I also think its great you have a "state of the art weight room" and a physical trainer. Why wont you mention his name? Interesting............oh by the way,,,how are all those teachers, janitors and administration people doing that lost their jobs because of your budget shortcoming? well as long as you have a great football field and great facilities those people don't really matter... Some people say ME =gold standard,,,,,I say ME is a district that has their priorities in the wrong place....but you do have a helluva football team.

That CAN be ahuge factor. Case in point, this excerpt from a 2004 Binghamton Press article about Chenango Fork's then run of very successful seasons. This part is about the trainer they took on when everyone else told him to take a hike. (and I KNOW this trainer has taken on many of the M-E players in recent years)

Excerpt from the article:

"And so, the architect set about designing the blueprint. To be the best is to first know what makes the best, and so Green studied those at the level he yearned for his program to reach.

"Quite frankly, I had gone up and watched the state tournament those years knowing that whoever won our section would go and we'd say, 'That's a heck of a football team,' " Coach Green said. "But very rarely would they get past the first game, the Syracuse team would beat us. And after that, you'd say, 'My God, the Syracuse team that beat us bad then got pounded.' And then that team lost in the state final.

"You know, how far are we away? Is this a dream?

"The things that just jump out at you are speed and quickness, and obviously, strength. The only way you get faster and stronger is through work.

"And, thank God, at about this time, a guy named Trent Patterson arrived at Chenango Forks."

T.P. POWER

Trent Patterson grew up in Syracuse, started at offensive guard for the University of Alabama from 1988-90, was in '89 the 'Bama football program's "Lifter of the Year" -- recognizing its strongest player.

But the line on his resume that reads "Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist" is the one that links him to Forks' football success.

Patterson recalls pitching his services in about 1997 to, he said, every school in the area.

"Kelsey was the only one who said, 'Let's give it a go.' He was the only taker of my kind of vision," Patterson said.

Patterson's conditioning program accentuates strength, agility, stamina, speed enhancement, explosive training, plyometrics. Athletes who participate get stronger, run faster, change direction quicker, improve their overall balance and stability. It is a six-week summer program, beginning when athletes are eight-graders.

Forks had long emphasized off-season training. But, as Green said, "I could read a physics book and try to teach physics, but it's not going to work. This guy is incredible."

Patterson came aboard, and Forks' athletes bought wholesale into the program.

"Ninety percent of the team has done the six-week program," Patterson said. "Those guys know what each other is all about. One knows the commitment the guy next to him has put in.

"I know what a difference it makes. Everything I'm putting those kids through, I've been through."

Wont mention his name because of the slanderous accusations idiots like you make on this site. ME has a good football program so it must be steroids?!?! You sir have issues that need treatment from a professional. I really hope your a pimply, snot nosed kid and not an adult. As far as the people that were laid off you are a scum bag for dragging their incredible misfortune into a discussion on high school football. This is an over used statement, but YOU NEED TO GET A LIFE!!!
