CDC: use bandana if no masks available

To mask or not to mask. That is the question.

Interesting that one of the top experts on Covid-19 in South Korea (basically their version of Dr. Fauci) stated one of the mistakes other countries made was NOT wearing masks...yet our government was the one telling us it was not necessary. Now it's coming to light that the reason the government did this was because they did not want to exacerbate the mask shortage for healthcare workers - not that they are ineffective. The Korean Dr. said, in his estimation, masks would have reduced our infection rate by at least 50%.

So, here is the question. Would it have been better to have people wear masks so the healthcare system would have 50% less sick people to deal with? I guess the answer is, if we can't even meet the number of masks just for healthcare professionals, supplying enough for 350 million would be out of the question. But if we were on the ball we could have done it.

The best interview I have seen on the subject: https://youtu.be/gAk7aX5hksU

^How awesome is that! :) I really want to start my tomato plants and stuff today but I did purchase those coffee filters so maybe tonight I'll try making some masks. If i don't need them I have no doubt where I can donate them.

  • 2 weeks later...

A while back I posted an interview with South Korea's version of Dr. Fauci. He did a followup interview that's just as candid and informative. This is the kind of stuff our news networks  SHOULD be airing, instead of an endless parade of opinionated 'Orange Man Bad' talking heads.

Very interesting that he confesses where we are at with treatments for Covid-19 by re-purposing meds. Nothing is scientifically proven yet, "We are just grasping at straws." He also stated that we are seeing these deadly strains of viruses, on average, every 6 years.

Went to Maine’s on Front St at 7am this morning. Sign on the door stating no mask no entrance. A guy walked away all pissy when employee wouldn’t let him enter. AWESOME

It wasn't some of the brave, brass-balled posters here. They would have walked in anyway, and dragged drank all of the beer in the store, got what they wanted and cussed out the rest.

Someone showed me this way to wear bandana.

Fold bandana into rectangle, 4 to 6 layers. Put rubber bands loose around each end. Fold ends toward middle. Insert bandana ends into each other. Voila. Put over face, rubber bands around ears. Good to go.

Like many, I get extremely tired of reading the bold headlines from their hired PR person when this local politician...Lupardo....Brindisi...Akshar.....or whomever, by performs their jobs by securing" governmental funding for this or that.

At this stage of the pandemic, apparently NOT ONE OF THEM has figured a way of "securing" MASKS to provide and distribute for the health & safety of their constituents??? Especially after having the State that they represent mandate their use?? AND HOW ABOUT NOT MADE IN CHINA?

I'm sure to hear that as we approach the boiling over point, it's easy to point fingers....however.... this is a travesty of critical inefficiency on all of their parts. As Crazy Joe Biden might say: C'mon Man! How many weeks now? Or I suppose they can all just blame Trump.

I was thinking the same thing. Cuomo and company mandate you must wear masks, etc. etc. but not one of these 'leaders' has done anything to help supply the population with this crap. You sure as hell can't just go buy it at CVS, RiteAid and Walgreens. We live in one of the highest taxed states in the nation, WTH are these people doing with all this money? It's certainly NOT going to anything I can see. Some parts of Broome County have streets that look like they have been used for land mine testing. I sincerely hope voters wake up after this.

:) It's been a while since I've had a child in school. What's  BROOBROCHILDREN?

http://jeffersoncountyalerts.com/2020/04/19/broome-county-addresses-new-covid-19-developments/

As a follow on, I found this:

https://wbng.com/2020/04/19/attorney-general-james-demands-health-insurance-providers-obey-the-law-protect-womens-access-to-birth-control/

Our Attorney general demands that health insurance providers supply 12 months of Birth Control which is required by law in NYS because we " ... need to limit trips to pharmacies, so it is important more now than ever to follow this law."

Well then why not do this for all medications.  My prescriptions cost me $20 for 3 months.  I would like to get 12 months for $80.  Why not my medication?  I want to reduce my trips to the pharmacy.

This AM a frail & somewhat confused elderly fellow was quite rudely & literally told to "Get Out" of Weis on Front St....in front of all. He was escorted directly from the Customer Service counter where he had attempted to "purchase" a mask. Embarrassing. Out in the parking lot I offered to get his items for him but appeared shaken and almost afraid of me having approached him.

Two things:

Again where are our illustrious State "leaders" with assistance in this critical shortage of now mandated masks?? At this stage... How difficult & inexpensive can their manufacture & distribution be? It's not a ventilator.

And employers...How about a little sensitivity training for employees obviously under terrific stress for having to perform their difficult duties in this difficult time?

Spot on.

That's why Weis will be Weis and never respected. A Weis manager at the Elmira location (who lives here locally ) who was posting all weekend on Facebook how he can not wait to "kick people out" if they enter without masks because they got the authority to do so from corporate.

You would not see any behavior like this at Wegmans. Guarantee it.

I thought Weis had a shopping service? Why didn't THEY offer to help him?

I was shopping this morning. I had to go to 4 different stores to find a new power cord for my laptop...no I couldn't wait for Amazon...I need it for work. The cord shorted out last night. The closest place I thought I could get one was Walmart in JC. They have 3 JC police officers there making sure people have masks and they are directing people to walk around a gate. I feel pretty badly for the elderly and I hope they are allowing them to walk straight in the door.

Walmart in Vestal had no police presence. The distance around the gate was a bit shorter. They didn't have the cord but I decided to shop for the couple of things I had on my grocery list. I saw 2 shoppers with no mask. It was nice to ooh and ahh over the wildly discounted Easter stuff as we all made fun of eachother for purchasing nonessentials...like I'm going to pass up wickers baskets for $.59 cents. I bought 2 for my front porch. 90% off items 75% off candy and yes it's my day I'm allowed to shop.

Big Lots in vestal did not have my cord...I didn't bother looking around.

Finally I found the cord at Target. I did not shop around. I paid for what I needed then tried to get out of the building. My way was either blocked or the arrows were going the wrong way. This sent me meandering through all of the clothing. I might also add, at the Walmarts, I did not see anyone following the floor prompts and I was especially ticked off that I had to walk all the way around one aisle to get a lousy box of pasta. There were 4 employees stocking in that aisle.

As I stated previously, I'm not doing the celtic labyrinth thing..I won't be shopping in any of those stores again.

I was in JC Wally this past weekend. They had 2 JC Police Officers at the front. I went right through without a mask. Not sure they’re checking for masks. Nobody said anything to me during my time there. Same thing at Binghamton Price Chopper and Wegman’s. I never put on a mask. Nobody said a word.
